How to Connect Social Media Accounts to Google Search Console

Google Search Console can now connect directly to select social media accounts, giving marketers another way to understand how their social content performs in Google Search.

By connecting an account, you can see which Google searches are leading people to your social content and get a clearer picture of the topics and terms helping your brand show up in search.

Google currently supports connections for YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, and X (formerly Twitter).

What You Need Before You Start

Before connecting a social media account, make sure you have:
• A Google account
• Access to the social media account you want to connect
• The appropriate Google account for the YouTube channel, if you’re connecting YouTube

Unlike a traditional Search Console website property, you don’t need a website or DNS verification to connect a supported social media account.

How to Connect Your Social Media Accounts to Google Search Console

1. Open Google Search Console

Go to Google Search Console and sign in with your Google account.

Once you’re signed in, you’ll land on the Search Console dashboard.

2. Open the Property Selector

Click the property name in the top-left corner of the dashboard.

You’ll see a dropdown with your existing Search Console properties. Select + Add Property.

3. Choose Your Social Media Platform

In addition to the standard website property options, you’ll see supported social media platforms.
Google currently supports:
• Instagram
• TikTok
• X (formerly Twitter)
• YouTube

Select Add next to the platform you want to connect.

4. Sign Into Your Account

Follow the prompts to connect the appropriate social media account.

For YouTube, you’ll be able to select a channel associated with your Google account. For Instagram, TikTok, and X, you may be prompted to sign in to the platform directly.

5. Confirm the Connection

Select the account or channel you want to connect and follow the remaining prompts.

Once the connection is complete, the social media account will appear as a property in Google Search Console.

6. Give Search Console Time to Collect Data

Don’t be concerned if you don’t see data right away. Search Console needs time to collect information for a newly connected property.
