You may have heard of Clawdbot AI or Moltbot AI and wondered what it is, what it means, and whether you should care.
We at Arc Intermedia are equal parts excited and cautious about any new developments in AI. We want you to explore and experiment — there are some true wonders out there! But we also want to help protect you.
After that ominous introduction. Let’s meet Clawd (not to be confused with Claude).
Who or What is Clawd?
He’s a lobster. He’s built on Claude foundations, but he has claws. Get it? He’s adorable.

Also, he has changed his name. As of yesterday, due to very clear trademark issues, the AI bot tool everyone has been talking about is no longer called by the name everyone has been talking about.
Clawdbot is now Moltbot. Because lobsters…molt…in order to grow.
UPDATE: As of 2/2/26, the name has been changed again. Moltbot is now OpenClaw.
But What is It?!?
Moltbot is an AI agent. But it’s not an AI agent like anything you’ve seen in the past. That’s because it’s not an app or a website. It’s not a chatbot interface.
It’s a tool you install on your computer, and give full access to your computer (remember this point for later), and then it can actually do real things on your computer.
Unlike most AI agents out there, it really, actually works. It thinks through processes. It goes searching for answers. It is, in real life, what all the AI company demo videos promise will eventually exist.
Here are some testimonials straight from the Moltbot/Clawdbot site:

What’s It for?
As AI Base puts it:
You can tell it: “Help me organize all last month’s PDF invoices and summarize them into a table for me.” Then you can go have coffee, and it will handle the files, run scripts, and complete the task on its own.
The reason I include this quote is to illustrate that, if it’s something you would want done on your computer, Moltbot can do it. Write an app, login to your time tracking tool and record time, write social media posts and then actually post them on the social media platforms.
It is an actual set of additional, invisible hands working for you in the background.
And it’s proactive, coming to you with information, updates, and items you may want to act on, causing many to dub it JARVIS from Iron Man. One example: It can alert you to a stock price change so you can buy or sell (or have it buy or sell for you).

Am I explaining this effectively? The reason it sounds so opaque is because Moltbot can pretty much do anything you want it to do (for good or bad).
What’s the Problem?
Ah yes, there is always a rub. The problem is security.
Well, the first problem is techiness. You need to be able to install it and provide it permissions and we’re talking config files and proxies and remote admin APIs and tokens and are you already out over there? We’re talking a decent level of technical knowhow to get it going.
But that obstacle can be overcome. Here are instructions for how to get started: https://docs.molt.bot/start/getting-started
Therefore, the main problem is security.
How much of a problem? Moltbot’s own creator, Peter Steinberger, had this to say about security risks:
“Running an AI agent with shell access on your machine is… spicy.”
Yes, the great benefit of Moltbot is that you give it access to your computer so it can do things for you. The greatest liability with Moltbot is that you give it access to your computer. Enter threats of hacks, injections, errors, and much more. Many are buying new computers and building private server systems strictly to run Moltbot without allowing it access to information they don’t want it to have.

Should I Install It?
Short answer: No.
Slightly longer answer:
Realistically, even if you know how to install Moltbot, you shouldn’t. The vulnerabilities are too great. And unlike the JARVIS comparisons, it isn’t a fully autonomous, fully thinking and reasoning general artificial intelligence. Its upside isn’t worth its downside. Yet. What you should do is know that this level of technology is here, and start thinking about how you’d want to use it, but don’t start using it for now.
What Does This Mean, Really?
If Moltbot isn’t ready for you to install, why did you need to learn about it? Because of how impactful its existence will be to the near future.
Moltbot is a proving ground. Moltbot is proof that a truly fully functioning, fully autonomous AI assistant is possible. This has massive implications for personal and professional lives. You really can give this thing a task and it’ll do it, and it will only get better at it, and require less tokens for the effort.
The impediments are impressive: It’s difficult to setup and even more difficult to secure.
But it’s possible. And that’s significant. More significant than ChatGPT and Gemini and Claude (not Clawd!) arm wrestling over whose model can pass the LSATs faster. This is the most significant leap in AI features since ChatGPT first hit the scene. No hyperbole. Unlike with the introduction of AI chatbots, the AI personal assistant revolution now really is upon us. And there will be no going back. Prepare yourself for what that means for the workforce and your personal workload.

We’re just as fascinated with everything as you are. Even if a colleague of mine created the Moltageddon image at the top of this page to illustrate his worst fears.
