Artificial intelligence is, without a doubt, one of the most powerful leverage tools modern marketers have ever seen. It can draft outlines in seconds, analyze massive datasets in real time, and personalize outreach at a scale that used to require an army of copywriters.
It’s efficient, impressive, and downright transformative.
It is also completely incapable of exercise common sense.
If you need proof, just ask my inbox. For weeks now, a company has been sending me automated sales sequences. The product they offer is actually quite good, and under normal circumstances, I might have been a viable lead.
There’s just one small problem: every single email starts with, “Hi Abraham.”

My name is Katie. My email address explicitly contains the name Katie. My signature says Katie. Yet somewhere inside their automated workflow, an unchecked AI model decided I was an Abraham, signed off on it, and sent it into the wild.
I haven’t called them out publicly—I’m not in the business of shaming brands—but I can tell you this: no matter how great their product is, they lost my business instantly. Not because of a small typo, but because of what that typo represents: sloppy, hands-off execution.
The Danger of the “Set It and Forget It” Trap
The problem here isn’t AI. AI is doing exactly what it was programmed to do based on whatever flawed data point or hallucination it hit.
The real issue is the total absence of human oversight.
When businesses treat AI as a complete replacement for human judgment rather than an assistant to enhance it, critical steps get skipped:
Data Integrity Checks: Nobody monitored the input or audited the outputs before pushing “play” on the campaign.
Brand Perception: A single automated error instantly signals to your prospect: “You are just a line item in a database, and we aren’t paying attention.”
Trust Erosion: If a prospective client can’t trust you to get their name right, why would they trust you with their budget, strategy, or business?
Why the “Human-in-the-Loop” Model is Non-Negotiable
AI excels at speed, pattern recognition, and initial heavy lifting. Humans excel at empathy, context, nuance, and quality control.
To keep your marketing effective—and to keep from accidentally renaming your prospective clients—your workflow must maintain three core human touchpoints:
Human Strategy: AI can generate ideas, but humans determine alignment, audience appropriateness, and overall strategic direction.
Human Verification: Before any automated workflow, email sequence, or dynamic content goes live, a human needs to spot-check the data, logic, and output.
Human Empathy: Marketing is ultimately about building relationships between people. An AI doesn’t feel the cringe of addressing a “Katie” as an “Abraham”—a human editor does.
Efficiency Means Nothing Without Authenticity
Automation should scale your reach and streamline your work, but it should never replace your attention to detail. The moment your target audience realizes an algorithm is talking to them with zero human supervision, the connection breaks.
AI is an extraordinary co-pilot. Just make sure someone is actually sitting in the pilot’s seat before you take off.
Sincerely,
Katie (Definitely not Abraham)
